Job summary
The Red Hat Subscription Engineering team is looking for a Software Application Developer to help customers proactively detect problems with and optimize the deployment of our Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) product. In this role, you will analyze problems discovered in large-scale Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) deployments and create tools that help customers ensure maximum performance, security, and stability. You’ll work closely with the Red Hat Product Engineering and Technical Support organizations to identify and research deployment challenges, and implement tooling solutions through a technical support rule management system, web-based tooling, and in-product automation.
Primary job responsibilities
- Review product support and usage information, including k-base articles, customer cases, product bugs, and documentation
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to find known problematic product configurations, environments, or usages
- Implement configuration analysis rules within a proactive diagnostics system to identify problematic configurations in customer systems
- Implement or define business rules for generating configurations through Red Hat Access Labs that help customers avoid problematic configurations
- Mine customer data to determine which customers are impacted and create alerts
Required skills
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Linux
- Linux or UNIX system administration experience, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance
- Deep technical knowledge of the Linux kernel and Linux filesystem
- 2-3 years of object-oriented software development experience
- Python and C/C++ development experience
- Creative, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and as part of a globally distributed team
- Active participation in open source software projects is a significant advantage
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a technology-related discipline is preferred
